Build Orders – Advanced Guide
This guide is more of an advanced than a beginner guide, and many of you will not like it, because things are not laid out and crystal clear. The thing is at the advanced levels, not everything is perfectly easy to comprehend where you get simple questions with simple answers like 1 + 1 = 2, or 2 + 2 = 4. That would be so easy.
This is something that applies to so many aspects in life, so use this information not only for Starcraft but in anything you wish to truly master. If you want to excel at something, you can’t just do what everyone else does in such a rigid line. You must be willing to deviate from the set path that others choose. Now don’t get me wrong, you still need the basics put into you. Not just any amount of basics, you need a mastery of the basics, if you wish to become great at something. Starcraft, Sports, etc. Great boxes know how to jab, throw a straight, a cross, uppercut, bob & weave, slip, they have all their footwork down pat, so it’s not like they just walk in, throw looping punches and expect to be called a great. No! They have to have a solid amount of fundamentals to their game. What they don’t do is always have a perfectly set game plan, if something goes wrong, they might have to adjust, they can’t have the same game plan for every opponent, etc. The boxer knows who he is facing off against,so he has more of a chance to devise a game plan. If you were a Pro Starcraft Player in Korea, you would also have a chance to develop a very solid game plan, but even then they must adjust depending on what the opponent does.
What this is about is not to throw away a game plan completely, it’s telling you to be flexible and always be ready to adjust whenever necessary. I’m also saying that at higher levels, you may not even necessariy have a build strategy, build more supplies before you know you’ll need them, keep building more units, attack, micro, build more units, expand when you feel it’s necessary, etc. You cannot say with certainty at 17 Probes you should have X amount of Pylons, Y Zealots, Z Stalkers, etc. You must be ready for whatever comes in your path. Maybe he attacked you earlier, and you lost units, you have to be prepared for these things, and cannot let that throw you off completely. So as Bruce Lee would say “Be Like Water”
