Marines

Marines are the first line of Terran attack and defense unit that you could possibly build. Even though marines are the first offense or defensive unit, they are capable of attacking both ground and air, even though Zerglings and Zealots are not capable of that. Of course in Starcraft, to have a positive, there is always a negative. The negative being that resource for resource in an open area, a Marine would lose to Zerglings (resource for resource if not micro’d correctly) and Zealots. They are also one of the weakest attack units in the game. They have low hit points, and firepower, although good Terran players will figure out ways such as walling off, where a Marine will have a huge advantage.

The Marines don’t sound like the best, but they actually have a lot going for them. There are two upgrades which are actually very effective. They can both be researched in the Tech Lab. The first one is the Combat Shield. This upgrade is great and adds 10 Hit Points to the Marines health. They do not have a lot to start with so that 10 hit points is very essential. The second upgrade is called the Stim Pack. It has always been very essential, they are good for 15 seconds after you apply it. 15 seconds seems short, but in the Starcraft game, a lot can be accomplished in that amount of time. It makes you attack more, and increases your speed. If you do not doubt their effectiveness, take two marines, use Stim Pack on one, and do not use it on the other, face them off and you will see how much more effective the Stim Pack’d marine is. Things to note about the Stim Pack are that they do not stack. Do not press the button 5 times thinking you will get that much more of an effect.
Marauders

After the Marine, there is another very effective unit. Unlike the marines, they only attack ground units, they have an upgrade called the Concussive shells which is essential if you are going to use Marauders. The Concussive shells are capable of slowing down the enemy units by as much as 50%, it works very effectively against Protoss units when the opponent is trying to run away and preserve their units due to the cost. Marauders also have the exact same Stim Pack ability as the Marines, and it is another essential upgrade to get. A Marauder with a Stim Pack is far more powerful than a regular Marauder.
Marauders are very capable and good units, but they are best when used in conjunction with two other units being the Marines and the Medivacs.

Medivacs

If you have ever played Starcraft, you would realize how essential Medics were to Terrans, especially in conjunction with Marines and Firebats. In Starcraft 2, we have Medivacs which are like Marines, but are far more flexble. They have drop ship capabilities, they are able to hold up to 8 units at a time, and they also have the ability to heal the units. They can heal nearby units, allowing your units to stay on the field longer.
Medivacs are essential in Starcraft 2, because you do not want to needlessly throw away units. Many people are under the impression that you can just create more resources, but the difference between an average player and a great one is the great one will keep limited amounts of resources, constantly spending, and not using them recklessly. A great player will not send men to war and just have them killed, he will try to preserve them as each extra unit will be a big help in this game
The more you preserve individual troops the better off you will be. You need to know when to sacrifice and when to save.
MMM Strategy

So after playing with the Marines, Marauders, even the Medivacs for a bit you must realize a few things. The first is individually they are not very powerful and kind of a waste. They are not very useful, and Blizzard would have to create something for them to be useful. So there is a way which was developed by gamers to successfully use the MMM strategy with great success. This strategy is called the MMM Strategy. You might be wondering what the MMM Strategy is, but after reading about the Marines, Marauders or Medivacs a lot must have been cleared up for you. The MMM Strategy consists of getting massive infantry units, Marines and Marauders, getting the Stim Packs, Concussive Shells, and the Ballistic Alloy Combat Shield.
When you have all of these researched and have a giant sized Terran army, it is very very powerful, and difficult to stop. They can attack anything, with such a large army, they can deal quite a lot of damage, and whenever you attack them, they end up healing themselves. They will eliminate Protoss Zealots, Immortals, Void Rays, Stalkers, and are very effective against Zerg opponents as well. You need to use a solid strategy to fight against Medivac’s, without a good strategy you will be at a huge loss.
